For years now, i have heard friends bragging about how they’re not sleeping for a normal night (8h or so), because it’s not really something they need. I’ve always wondered why do they think its a normal habbit, but also how this premeditated lack of sleep can affect us for the long term.
The reason I am writing this is because is just feel that not only sleep is important for our skin and eyes, but I also felt that when i don’t get my rest, my body tends to need sugar, and that is never a good thing.
Hopefully, a couple of days ago I read an article on Ny Times that proves i wasnt the only one with this issue. In fact there is a study that shows that the lack of sleep tends to make people eat more and gain weight and the brain is bit by bit damaged.
The research showed that depriving people of sleep for one night created pronounced changes in the way their brains responded to high-calorie junk foods. The lack of proper sleep, can make you eat fattening foods like potato chips and sweets that stimulates a stronger response in a part of the brain that helps govern the motivation to eat.
The findings suggested that one unfortunate result of sleep loss is this “double hit” in brain activity, said Matthew P. Walker, an author of the study and a professor of psychology and neuroscience at the University of California, Berkeley.
But what is really alarming is that both adults and children are responding the same way at the deprvation of sleep. So there you have it, guys! Maybe video games, internet and tv are more entertaining than a magazine or a book, but they are not making you gain weigh day by day. Remember these words and dream about them every night: go to sleep to kill-your-grams!
