How long can you keep make up before toss it to the garbage?
Expiration dates car vary from months to years, but yes make up is not ment to long usage. After all you are using it on your face and you want it to enhance your beauty not worsen it. That is why product life is written on the tube of every product. To keep you informed. Sometimes that print erases from the normal usage. So you might find some of my tips useful!
Before nagging you about makeup expiry dates, I wanna destroy a myth. Make up is not ment to stay in the fridge. You can really spoil it this way.
But if you want to keep something in it besides food, try keeping moisturizers, lotions, ampoules and yes – eye creams. They tend o have a cooling effect on the face when is chilled. I don’t like it a lot especially in the cold season ,but if you are willing to try this, it worth telling you about it
Nothing lasts forever, not even face masks. Daily face products are the first to go every time.
– Anything in an ampoule toss after One day,
– Glycolic peels pads use it after 2 days
– Masks and peels use them for 3 months if they are still creamy.
– Acne products mostly 6 months, remember that these have benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid that is why the formula won’t work after this time.
– Moisturizing creams:1 year
Makeup expiry dates individually taken. Pros and cons, mostly cons.
Mascara: 1 to 1 ½ years Why? Bacteria. I think none wants a red eye, or tears for nothing… the brush is the problem here… because u take it out and put it back in, it could bring some bacteria in the mascara. You should also smell it once in a while…if it has a gasoline scent throw it away immediately! It’s trouble in a pen!
Liquid Foundation: 1 year Powdere foundation: 18 months
Beause foundation is a watwer based product, it can product bacteria after it’s opened. Do not keep it in hot and moist rooms, so bathrooms are a no go… and watch it! If you see some lines in it like it’s all separated you can throw it away! You failed in using it again! Whats the worst it can happen? Only irritation and lots of breakouts!
Concealer: 12 to 18 months Expired concealer will cause breakouts- it’s simple. And how do you know it’s spoiled? The color starts to shift.
Powder: 18 months- 2 years!
Yey!!! You can use a powder for a long time. That’s a bonus! But you can get breakouts from the applier that’s why you should clean it once a week. Besides that, keep it in a dry place just to be safe!
Blush/bronzer: 18 months
If you like using creamy blushers replace them after a year. And if you think your face gets irritated maybe it is because your blush brush, you can read about how to clean the makeup tools below.
Eye shadow: 18 months
After using one eyeshadow for a long time sometimes I felt my eyes itchy, why? Because I forgot it is expired! Even though it is similar to a powder, from an eye shadow it is easier to get an infection because the mucus gets in contact with the brush and so on.
Eyeliner: 3-6 months
I do not use liquid or pencil eyeliner, but I’ve heard some terrifying stories about how not to use one eyeliner from your co-worker. It can go very bad! If you’ve used a expired liner, you could experience conjunctivitis.
Lipstick/lip gloss: 18 months
What can I say more about lipsticks besides that one spoiled one can get you herpes? Because it is truly a tinted moisturizing, lipsticks are full of water and oils that helps bacteria to grow on it. How can you know you use an expired lipstick? It will feel like you are trying to apply Vaseline and chalk.
Nail polish: 1 year-This one will not get bacteria, but after some time will dry out and will have a thick consistency.
Makeup sponges: Wash after each use, then throw them away after a month
Usually a good brush lasts for years if you are cleaning it properly. What do I do? Use shampoo. I wash them every week with warm water and shampoo and let them on a clean towel to dry out. If the bristles start to fray or fall out, it’s time for a new set.
