Do your daily habits include reading? If so, reading implies more than Facebook posts and magazines? 🙂 Maybe it’s time to include, at least 20 pages a day because the benefits are enormous; even though you shouldn’t need a reason to read. But, in case you do, I have 10.
1. It enriches your vocabulary
Agastpia… Nazzard … Kerfuffle…and the list can go on with words that, maybe you would know if you would read more. And, yeah!!! Kerfuffle is an English word. I didn’t make any mistakes; it means to make a fuss or a bother.
It’s simple! The more you read the better the vocabulary. And who doesn’t want to be a great communicator and talk his way out of everything. Reading can help you in this area and with many more things. Just read the post. For sure you’ll remember “kerfuffle” next time. 🙂
2. Improves your imagination
So many magical realms, complex characters and intricate stories are being discovered with every page you read. Your imagination will be challenged every step of the way and you will use this skill almost everywhere in your daily life. It’s always good to have a rich imagination.
3. It helps form new neurons
If you thought you were born with a strict number of neurons and there’s nothing you can do about it…Think again! It has been discovered that every day our brain produces new neurons and READING can help increase this magic number. And is not the only thing that can do that. Maybe in another post I will write some more about this interesting thing (our beautiful brain) but for the moment let’s focus on reading.
4. You live more lives than just your own
Unfortunately we can live just one life, ours. But with the help of books and movies we can experience 1000+ lives. By reading a book we become one with it; and we cry, and smile and shout alongside our favorite character. We experience pain and sorrow, poverty and misfortune, riches and fame and sometimes we don’t even want the story to finish because we became so attached. It’s a wonderful feeling made possible by our friends: books.
5. Makes you more empathic
It has been discovered that fiction reading influences empathy. According to this research “fiction presents a simulation of real-world problems, and therefore has real consequences for the reader”.
6. You become a better judge of character
In your reading quests you discover all sorts of characters with different temperaments and complex features that help you form opinions and make judgments regarding their personality. And this may come in handy in the real life too because it sharpens your senses when it comes to complex hidden personalities.
7. Induces relaxation and reduces stress
What better way to relax than reading a book? Sometimes it even makes you fall asleep rapidly. Trouble sleeping? Start reading a book 🙂
Now that we know we can relax so much that we fall asleep reading.. what’s the deal with stress reduction? Well, according to a research, made by the University of Sussex, reading can reduce stress levels by 68 per cent. You don’t even have to read that much, under 10 minutes. If you want more details you can find them here.
8. Improves your concentration
In a world where speed is the ruler is harder and harder to focus and concentrate. It is said that our attention span has shorten to 8 seconds due to digital era, 1 second less than a goldfish. Being engaged in reading a book makes you shut-down your external sensors and truly immerse in a different world, which over time will help you improve those 8 seconds.
9. Makes you a better writer
Reading and writing go together. Observing the style and fluidity of other authors will have an impact upon your writing and will influence your language and writing technique.
10. And, of course, boosts your creativity
By reading many books you encounter different ideas and interesting characters, fantasy realms and circumstances that you never even dreamed of. All these will help your creativity and out of the box thinking.
And the list can go on…makes you happier, encourages self-reflection, improves rational thinking and there are so many other reasons why you should read more often than you are doing it now. You will gain a lot by implementing this daily habit.
How much are you reading now? 🙂 Maybe it’s time add a few more pages
